For my midterm project, I have an idea that involves the microbit being on a set of wheels and programing it to move towards me. I will utilize the sensor to have the micro:bit figure out where I am and thus move itself toward me - or follow me as I would like to demonstrate this on both the floor and atop a table.
I intend to create a code that will have the micro:bit move toward me when it finds/senses where I am and follow me when I move around. Thinking of this, I was worried about the safety of the micro:bit; I don't want the hypothetical situation to occur where it moves toward me, rolls off the table, and I can't grab it in time before it lands on the floor thus damaging it. So, I'll program it to follow me when it senses me from certain distance that's close enough for it to follow me (as intended) but also far enough to avoid it hurting itself.
I want the resulting display to appear in a kind of cute manner, maybe try to emulate the behavior of a creature following me home and/or a loving pet happy to see me. In a way, I wan it to give off the vibe that it's a cute companion with a bit of autonomy.
I am also considering to add LEDs that maybe light up or blink when the micro:bit begins to follow me, while also playing a little tune from the speakers.
Another thing that would be nice to add in to the project is that it maybe follows only me. Perhaps as an additional safety precaution (it doesn't start following someone else whom may not suspect the little device following it and might unintentionally kick it) or to add on to the vibe that I'm going for. But I'm not entirely sure.
Also, I may incorporate a button press for different actions. I haven't thought up a solidified idea for it, but I'll maybe have it draw or write something, or play a certain melody to a song.
